Tsum Valley Trek

 This trek takes you on a journey to the secret Tibetan Buddhist land lying at the edge of one of Tsum valley which is a  secluded Himalayan valley. The trek to Tsum Valley takes you into the spectacular view of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Boudha Himal ranges.

  1. Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft)

     

    A representative from Adventure Kora will escort you from the airport to your hotel. In the afternoon, you can opt to take a short excursion through the city, especially the Kathmandu Durbar Square to take you on a cultural and historical tour of the ancient city.

  2. Kathmandu and trek preparation

     

    If you still have some last minute trek supplies to purchase, our guides will take you to some of the adventure sports store. We’ll head back to the hotel for dinner where the guide will orient you about the Tsum Valley Trek.

  3. Drive Kathmandu to Soti Khola (600m/1,968ft) 7-8 hours

     

    The Prithvi highway route from Kathmandu to Soti Khola is very scenic, driving through forested road, over the Trishuli river leading to dirt road which heads uphill. The road taking us through Dhading Besi, Arughat and above has splendid views of the southern slopes of the Ganesh, and Manalsu. The route descend downwards as we cross the Ankhur River, and Budhi Gandaki at Arughat.  After driving towards the west bank of the Budhi Gandaki River we reach Seti Khola.

  4. Soti Khola to Maccha Khola (870m/2,952ft): 6-7 hours

     

    Today we begin the first stage of our trek to Tsum valley. The route takes us through thick Sal forest, ridges over the huge rapids of Budhi Gandaki river, rocky trails, waterfalls, and a few challenging sections along the cliff. It then heads on to beautiful terraced farms, the Gurung village of Laubesi, through sandy riverbeds until we reach the suspension bridge. The village of Machha Khola lies on the other end of the suspension bridge.

  5. Maccha Khola to Jagat (2340m/7676ft): 6-7 hours

     

    We pass through the hot spring in Tatopani on our way to Jagat. The route includes a few sections of narrow trails until we reach Khorlabesi. Crossing over suspension bridges over the River Budhi Gandaki and Yaru Khola, we have some uphill route awaiting us. Walking on stone staircases, we reach the village of Tharo Bhanjyang. A short while later after crossing the Budhi Gandaki, we have a steep climb before Jagat.                                         

  6. Jagat to Chisopani (1660m/5,445ft): 4-5hours

     

    After complying with required process to enter the Annapurna Conservation, we slowly make our way towards the rocky ridge to Salleri. From here on the trail descends downwards to Sirdibas, and then uphill towards Ghatta Khola. Crossing a suspension bridge, we head towards Philim, a Gurung village. We stop for a break here before following the path from the north side that leads to the forest. At the end lies Chisapani.  

  7. Chisopani to Chumling (2,386m/7,827ft): 6 - 7 hours

     

    The route takes us through waterfalls and pine forest. Descending downwards on the trail towards Tsum valley, we will need to climb our way through the pine and rhododendron forests. One of the first village we pass through is the picturesque village of Lokpa. The trail decends further down till we reach the Lungwa river. The trail descends upwards and is challenging until we reach Gumlung. After crossing over the Siyar Khola, we finally reach Chumling.

  8. Chumling to Chokhangparo (3,010m/9,903ft): 4-5 hours

     

      The spectacular view of Ganesh Himal lies on the opposite side of the suspension bridge at Chumling. We will need to cross the bridge at Serpu River before we reach the village of Gho. Steadily climbing uphill, we reach the village of Chokhangparo. On a clear day, we can see Mt. Himchuli and Ganesh Himal.

  9. Chokhangparo to Nile (3,361m/11,058ft): 5-6 hours

     

    Crossing the suspension bridge at Lama village, we will pass by the Rachen Gompa and then the Shiar River. The trail passes through the villages of Lar, Phurbe and Pangdun, and the village of Chule. Following the upstream path, we reach Nile. After we settle down at the lodge ,we will head out to explore the village on your own including the visit to the famous monastery of Chhule.

  10. Nile to Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,174ft): 3 hours

     

    The trail towards Mu  Gompa is near the Tibetan border. We will need to climb up to the Mu Gompa. Venture inside the monastery and explore it. After Mu Gompa we will visit the Dhephu Doma Gompa. Head back to the lodge in the evening. We will stay one more day at Mu Gompa to res and acclimatize.

  11. Mu Gompa, sightseeing

     

    After breakfast, you can head out for sightseeing. The monastery at Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region. We can also hike towards the base of the Pika Himal.  

  12. Mu Gompa to Burgi Village (3,245m/10644ft) via Milarepa cave: 5 hours

     

    We retrace our steps we head back to the Shiar Khola. From its east bank we arrive at the Burgi village. Enroute to Burgi village lie the Milarepa cave.

  13. Burgi village -Chumling (2,386/7,827ft): 5-6 hours

     

    The trail descends downwards to Chukkong Paro. Passing through scenic views of the forest and hills, we head towards Gho. After crossing the bridge at Sarpu River, we trek towards lowe tsum valley which heads to Chumling.

  14. Chumling to Philim (1,570m/5,103ft): 6-7 hours

     

    The trail today is fairly easy, mostly trekking on flat trails. Continuing on our route we head towards Lokpa and then to the Samba Falls and a couple of hours later to Philim.

  15. Philim to Khorlabesi (970m/3182ft:) 6-7 hours

     

    We head to Khorlabesi via Jagat and Tatopani ( hot springs). Taking the downward trail to Siridibas we reach Jagat and then on to Yaruphant. We can notice a change in the vegetation, as we descend downwards, from plateau to greener vegetation. Once we reach the hotspring, we can spend some time there before hiking to Khorlabesi.

  16. Khorlabesi to Soti Khola (700m/2,296ft): 6-7 hours

     

    Crossing the tharu Khola we descend to the Maccha Khola village. Walking alongside the Budhi Gandaki River we reach Labubesi, a gurung village. Passing through waterfalls, and a steep rocky trail, we reach Khursane. A quick stopover later, we walk through the Sal forest before reaching Soti Khola.

  17. Soti Khola to Arughat to Kathmandu (1300m/1,968ft): Walk 4 hours and drive 7-8 hours

     

    Today is the last day of the Tsum Valley trek. After climbing the ridge of Kyorpani, we descend downwards and reach Arkhet. After we cross the Arkhet River we will be leaving behind the valley of Budhi Gandaki. Upon reaching Arughat, we will be transferred to the waiting jeeps to Kathmandu.

  18. Soti Khola to Arughat to Kathmandu (1300m/1,968ft): Walk 4 hours and drive 7-8 hours

     

    Today is the last day of the Tsum Valley trek. After climbing the ridge of Kyorpani, we descend downwards and reach Arkhet. After we cross the Arkhet River we will be leaving behind the valley of Budhi Gandaki. Upon reaching Arughat, we will be transferred to the waiting jeeps to Kathmandu.
