Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Ghorepani trek is one of the most scenic trekking routes in Nepal. This trek takes you through rustic villages, paddy fields, the colorful forest of rhododendron while offering you a glimpse of the warm hospitality of its inhabitants. The best highlight of the trek is the stunning sunrise from Poon Hill, the highest point of the trek.

  1. Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)


    A representative from Adventure Kora will escort you from the airport to your hotel. In the afternoon, you can opt to  take a short excursion through the city, especially the Kathmandu Durbar Square to take you on a cultural and historical tour of the ancient city.

  2. Day 2: Trek preparation day in Kathmandu


    If you still have some last minute trek supplies to purchase, our guides will take you to some of the adventure sports stores. We’ll head back to the hotel for dinner where the guide will orient you about the trek.  

  3. Day 3: Drive to Pokhara (823m/2,700ft)


    We start early towards Pokhara which is around 6-7 hours' drive from Kathmandu. After you check in, head out to the lakeside area. You can go boating at the serene Phewa Lake and if there's still time; go on a short hike to the Peace Pagoda.  At the top you will be greeted by the panoramic view of Pokhara city and Mt. Fishtail and its reflection on Phewa's water.

  4. Day 4: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga – 2 hrs drive, 5 hours trek


    Nayapul is around 45 km from Pokhara. Passing through the scenic views of Naudanda, Kande and Lumle village we reach Nayapul. This is the starting point of our trek. The route to Tikhedunga passes through the steep route to Birethanti. Following the east bank of the Bhurungdi River, we slowly will make our way up to Tilkhedhunga.  

  5. Day 5: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,750m/9,020 ft): 4 - 5 hours trek


      The trail up to Ulleri passes through winding roads, quaint villages, and stone paved uphill roads that give scenic views of the village down below. The stone paved stairs that wind uphills are by far the steepest hike of this trail. Passing through dense forest covers, and uphill roads, we'll reach Ghorepani by afternoon. After you settle down in your lodge feel free to explore the village on your own. The view of Mount Niligiri and Tukuche can be clearly seen from here, as well as the massifs of Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri. Find yourself a good spot to watch the sunset.  

  6. Day 6: Ghorepani to Tadapani (2,700m/8,860ft) with a visit to Poon Hill: 6 - 7 hours


    Head outside in the early hours before dawn. Bracing the cold wind and walking past the rhododendron forest, we reach Poon Hill, an hour walks away from Ghorepani. Revel in the beautiful view of the stunning sunrise cloaking the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, Baraha Shikar, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Machapuchhare, and many more. Spend some time to watch the sunrise and head back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we'll head towards the village of Tadapani. The trail consists of a steep descent in some part, passing through thick forest cover, and then the village of Birethanti before reaching Tadapani.

  7. Day 7: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940m/6360 ft): 3 - 4 hours


    Passing through dense forest and scenic views of the mountains and paddy fields, we make our way towards Ghandruk, a charming Gurung village. The village also a museum where you can observe the traditional culture and artifacts of the Gurung people. Surrounded by hills and forest, Ghandruk provides splendid views of the mountains around it.    

  8. Day 8: Ghandruk to Pokhara: drive 4 hours' drive


    After breakfast, we descend towards Pokhara. The road leads through the village and its rows of clustered houses, all distinct with their slated roof. The trail is very scenic, passing through rows of terraced fields, and the picturesque view of the mountains to keep us company. At Pokhara, you have the whole afternoon to spend at your leisure.      

  9. Day 9: Drive to Kathmandu


    The drive to Pokhara is very scenic, passing through villages, and offering glimpses of mountains at every turn. At Kathmandu, you can spend your remaining day at leisure.    

  10. Day 10: Final Departure


    A representative from Adventure Kora will drop you off at the airport.
