Overview

Go on a journey through the arid valley of Upper Manang, descending down to Muktinath, a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhist, and the Kali Gandaki Valley, the deepest gorge in the world. Passing through the majestic views of Mount Fishtail, Mount Dhaulagiri, we'll also experience the culture of the Gurung, Manangi and Thakali people who reside in this area.

Itinerary

  1. Kathmandu to Beshisahar drive (760m,6-7 hours)

     

    Our first destination is Besisahar, a seven hours' drive from Kathmandu. Besi Sahar is a very small town with a busy market place. Settle down in your hotel and head out to explore the markets. From Besisahar, you can see beautiful views of mountains up north.

  2. Beshi Sahar to Dharapani Drive (1860m, 7-8 hours)

     

    We will be driving off-road. The road towards Dharapani is very adventurous along with beautiful views of the mountains. Along the way, we will come across waterfalls which are mind blowing beautiful.

  3. Dharapani to Chame Trek (2650m, 6-7 hours)

     

    Today’s route includes a few sections of steep path forest ridges. On this route, you will be greeted by the views of the mountains of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II and IV. Depending on the season, we will also visit the hot-spring at Chame.  We will be spending overnight at Chame.

  4. Chame to Upper Pisang Trek (3300m, 6-7 hours)

     

    Brace yourself for some difficult climbing as we'll come across rocky massifs enroute to Humde. The scenic view of Humde with its rolling hills and glimpses of the peaks of the Himalayan range is very vivid. Before we reach Pisang,we'll pass through serene pine forest, across the river, and a settlement of Tibetan Khampas.

  5. Upper Pisang to Manang Trek (3519m,5-6 hours)

     

    There is a noticeable change in the landscape as we gain altitude. Lazy yaks will greet us at every turn, busy grazing, while the looming peaks of the mountains start to become more visible. After passing through ancient monasteries at Braga, views of Manang Valley becomes clearer. Venture the monastery at Manang and observe the local tradition. If you are yearning for something sweet after the strenuous trek, head out to one of the many bakeries to savor their sweet delights.

  6. Acclimatization day at Manang (Optional: Hike to Ice Lake 4600m,7-8 hours)

     

    Depending upon how you are feeling you can choose to give your body rest at Manang. If you feel good and want more glorious view and adventure, doing a day hike to Ice Lake is a very good idea. Its a steep uphill hike to the lake from the village of Braga. After climbing up to 4600m you will be well acclimatized for the high pass which you will be crossing in few days.

  7. Manang to Yak Kharka (4019m, 5-6 hours)

     

    This day is relatively easy and most beautiful part of the trek. After leaving the village of Manang we will we be gradually ascending towards Gusang. After a short lunch break we will move forward towards Yak Kharka. Overnight at Yak Kharka.

  8. Yak kharka to Thorong Phedi (4420m, 3-4 hours)

     

    Route to Thorong Phedi is relatively easy.Crossing a suspension bridge, we walk uphill, passing through massive cliffs. Thorong Phedi is the last checkpoint before we head to Thorong La Pass. This is one of the toughest routes of this trek because of the landslide area which we will be walking through. The views are spectacular and you can see the mountain Gundang, Syangagan, Thorung Peak and Khatungkan.

  9. Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,800m) via Thorong La (5416m, 7 - 8 hours)

     

    Thorong La Pass, is one of the highest passes in the world. We will be crossing the Pass walking from an anti-clockwise direction, as the winds are extremely strong - walking from the east to the west. An early start at the wee hours of the morning, we will ascend uphill. The view from the top is worth your hard work. We will then slowly descend towards Muktinath Valley.

  10. Muktinath to Jomsom (2743m, 5-6 hours)

     

    The trek to Jomsom will take us through Jarkot famed for its fortress that leads to Kingar and Kagbeni. After Thorong La pass and its desert like landscape, Kagbeni is a beautiful change with barley fields alongside the river bank of the Kali Gandaki. We will see the peaks of Mount Dhaulagiri along the way. After you settle down in your hotel, feel free to explore the market area at Jomsom. Marpha is particularly known for its apples. Overnight at Jomsom.

  11. Jomsom to Tatopani Drive (7-8 hours)

     

    While you are driving along the road, you will notice changes in the vegetation. From drier climate and mountain ranges,  you will be heading towards green fields and farmland. We might pass areas affected by landslides. At tatopani head to the hot-water springs. The water of tatopani is considered to have healing properties. A dip in the water is sure to offer you some respite from the long and tiring journey.

  12. Tatopani to Ghorepani (2874m,7-8 hours)

     

    We have a tough hike ahead of us today. We will be going to heading from 1190 m elevation from Tatopani to more than 2800 m at Ghorepani. The trail today is very steep. For the most part until Ghorepani, the trail includes stone paved steps.

  13. Hike to Poon hill(3210m) for sunrise and trek to Tadapani (2630m, 7-8 hours)

     

    Head outside in the early hours before dawn. Bracing the cold wind and walking past the rhododendron forest, we reach Poon Hill, an hour walks away from Ghorepani. Revel in the beautiful view of the stunning sunrise cloaking the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, Baraha Shikhar, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Machapuchare, and many more. Spend some time to watch the sunrise and head back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we'll head towards the village of Tadapani. The trail consists of a steep descent in some part, passing through thick forest cover, and then the village of Birethanti before reaching Tadapani.

  14. Tadapani to Ghandruk

     

    Passing through dense forest and scenic views of the mountains and paddy fields, we make our way towards Ghandruk, a charming Gurung village. The village also a museum where you can observe the traditional culture and artifacts of the Gurung people. Surrounded by hills and forest, Ghandruk provides splendid views of the mountains around it.

  15. Ghandruk to Pokhara

     

    After breakfast, we descend towards Pokhara. The road leads through the village and its rows of clustered houses, all distinct with their slated roof. The trail is very scenic, passing through rows of terraced fields, and the picturesque view of the mountains to keep us company. At Pokhara, you have the whole afternoon to spend at your leisure. You can head out to Phewa Lake, or visit the curio shops for some last minute shopping, or easily find yourself a quiet corner at one of the many cafes at the lakeside.

  16. Pokhara to Kathmandu drive

     

    We'll head back to Kathmandu after breakfast. You can spend the day at leisure in Kathmandu or opt to take a city tour with our guide or finish some last minute souvenir shopping.
